So, What Do You Do For a Living?

We all know that our career is a large part of each of our lives. We not only depend on our jobs to pay our bills, keep a roof over our heads, and put food on the table, but in a way our careers (since they consume such a large part of our lives) have become a source of self-identification.

For example, when we first meet someone or haven’t seen someone for awhile, the first few questions usually include your name and what you do for a living, right? Well, haven’t you noticed that when we get asked these things, we don’t casually respond with, “Well, my name is Rachel, and I like long walks on the beach, eating out, and spending time with my dog.” We’d probably get some pretty weird looks. Rather, we instinctively respond with what we do for work.

Since this is usually the case, isn’t it worth trying to find work that you absolutely love doing? I think we all struggle to find a job that we love so much that we don’t really see it as “work” per se. But if you’re like me, thinking about finding work you love doing, that has a meaning to you, a purpose, can not only be frustrating, but it can sure be scary, doubtful, and downright discouraging. So how do we start that exploration?

I came across “Live Your Legend,” a blog site by Scott Dinsmore that inspires and helps people find and do the work they love. He provides a motivational and inspirational framework with wonderful tools to get you started on your journey. Find inspiration and challenge yourself!
